Originally discovered in Michigan, the Emerald Ash Borer attacks and kills ash trees when its larvae burrow into the tree.  EAB is reponsible for killing thousands of ash trees across several states and Canadian provinces.

There are steps that you can take to save your ash trees. Vande Hey company is trained and certified in the use of ArborJet's TREE-Age system, an injectable insecticide which was only recently licensed in Wisconsin. TREE-Age can be effectively utilized before or after an EAB infestation.

We can help you determine which ash trees will be cost-effective to treat. Many trees are ideal candidates for TREE-Age, but others may not be as suitable for the injections. We can help you determine which trees are -- or are not -- good candidates for treatment.

Vande Hey Company has taken a proactive stance in its designs and installations and used restraint in the use of all Ash species for several years.  Plant scourges such as Emerald Ash Borer and, in the past, Dutch elm disease, are heightened by the planting of mass quantities of one single species of tree.  This occurred with the elms and ultimately with their replacement, the Ash, as well.  We are committed to utilizing and promoting a broad range of plant materials in our designs and offering a wide selection of trees and shrubs for your landscape. The more diverse your plantings become the less likely that insect or disease will decimate your landscape.  Numerous alternatives exist to the planting of Ash, some quite common and others probably unknown to the homeowner.  We now stock or have access to many of these alternatives recommended by the University of Wisconsin . If you have questions regarding these alternatives or need help in the planning of your diverse urban landscape please let us know.

Only time will tell how extensively the Emerald Ash Borer will change the landscape of Wisconsin -- or what new foreign invader will arrive in Wisconsin to attack some other species.  Until then, you can do your part in the battle against Emerald Ash borer by planting alternative species, maintaining the ash on your properties in the healthiest possible condition and by eliminating the transport of firewood from one location to the other.
