The WLCA judges were particularly impressed with the construction and attention to detail of the project. They also noted the effect of the low voltage lighting and how the landscaping incorporated the existing woodland area. “It’s a great private living space with a nice sense of symmetry.”
Sandy soils, existing oaks and native woodland plants provided design opportunities of blending existing with new. The specified plant materials, while lending seasonal color, complemented the naturally occurring woodland plants, while staying within the character of an English Tudor style home setting. The owners requested a decorative entrance fence with columns, a kitchen garden, a patio with overhead pergola structure, and easy grill location, annuals and perennials throughout, a children’s play area and a tennis court, incorporating colorful, low maintenance plant material in an irrigated landscape setting.
